Wittmond Hotel
The Wittmond Hotel & Restaurant has been serving locals and travelers in Calhoun County for over five generations. Perched on a hill overlooking the countryside of Brussels, Illinois, the historic building, founded by German immigrant Conrad Wittmond and still operated by his descendants, is comprised of a 15-room hotel, a full bar, and a family-style restaurant with made-from-scratch dishes.
Though the hotel rooms are no longer in operation, the bar and restaurant still bring visitors back in time with original hardwood floors, antique furniture, and down-home cooking. Take a seat in the cozy dining room and enjoy a multi-course meal. There are no menus to fuss over- just delicious traditional food made in house with local ingredients!
The food at Wittmond's is served family-style with the first course brought out immediately including coleslaw, apple sauce, pickled beets, corn relish, spiced apples, peach marmalade, bread rolls, and pork sausage, followed by a main course of fried chicken, mashed potatoes & gravy, chicken & dumplings, green beans, corn, and optional roast beef.
If you're not full to the brim by then, Wittmond Hotel serves a variety of desserts to add to your meal including peach, apple, blackberry, and pecan pie or cobbler, cheesecake, vanilla ice cream, and orange sherbet- all made in house!
After your meal, stay for a drink at the bar or peruse the old-fashioned general store- and don't forget your cash! Wittmond Hotel is cash only and does not accept cards- but there is an ATM for use across the street!
