Operating as a school for over 80 years, the Milton School House, located in Upper Alton, has its fair share of stories. Robert Wadlow, the World's Tallest Man, went to elementary school at Milton and the old brick building is purportedly a haunted site. Though many of the school's rumored hauntings are myth, visitors, employees, students, and residents of Milton have experienced strange occurrences for many years. Everything from hearing disembodied voices to items falling or moving on their own to full shadow figures have been witnessed in the building- some more friendly than others.

Closing as a school in the 80's, Milton has fallen and been restored to various states of repair over the years. It has served as a glass factory, a storage facility, and now serves as both residential and commercial property with businesses on the lower floors and apartments upstairs. The Milton School was featured on the October 2010 Ghost Hunters (TAPS) T.V. show on the Syfy Channel and has been a featured stop on ghostly tours in Alton for over a decade.
