Welcoming travelers and locals alike, the Litchfield Museum and Route 66 Welcome Center aims to both educate and entertain visitors with the history of Litchfield and the famed Mother Road. Located on the site of the former Vic Suhling gas station, the museum is home to many displays and is a perfect stop for a history lesson and photo opportunities.

A retro designed building and neon signage, including the restored Vic Suhling Gas Station sign, greet guests before they walk into the large showroom full of antiques, local artifacts, and a gift shop. Score some Route 66 merchandise and peruse the organized gallery containing photos from Litchfield's nostalgic past, an original Route 66 road sign, classic license plates, and more. Speak with the museum's informative guides and other travelers- many motorcyclists and retro car owners frequent the stop.

Litchfield served as a popular rest stop along the Mother Road which stretched from Chicago to California. At least 70% of the route is still drivable, though many sections have been moved or converted to new highways.
