Its western boundary defined by the serene Illinois River, Greene County is 500-plus square miles of rolling fields and green woodlands spotted with small towns and down-home values.

The National Register of Historic Places includes a host of Greene County sites, many in its county seat of Carrollton and in nearby White Hall. The Two Rivers National Wildlife Refuge branches into the county as well, a popular destination for bald eagles in the winter months.
