With the riverfront as a backdrop, the sounds of summer will be bouncing off the Mississippi River during the Five Dollar Fridays Summer Concert Series at the Alton Riverfront Amphitheater.
FRIDAY, JUNE 22
The city-sponsored concert season, brought to you by Triple Jam Productions, kicks off Friday, June 22 with the Briefcase Blues and Silver Bullet. The Briefcase Blues was formed in 1983 with J.W. Leggio (as Jake) and Lee Schwing (as Elwood) backed by a seven-piece show band. Silver Bullet is a St. Louis-based, eight-member band with Steve Tinnon as lead vocalist.
FRIDAY, JULY 6
Hotel California and Guitars on Fire will burn up the stage with a tribute to the Eagles and Lynyrd Skynyrd. Hotel California includes five members and plays such Eagles favorites such as Take it Easy, Hotel California, Love Will Keep Us Alive and more. Guitars on Fire is another St. Louis-based group with six members. The band concentrates on the period from Lynyrd Skynyrd's Pronounced album to Street Survivors.
SATURDAY, JULY 21
The third concert of the year features the Shades of Blue Air Force Band and the Glendale Riders as part of the celebration of Alton's 175th anniversary on Saturday, July 21. This concert is free. The festivities begin shortly after 4 p.m. with a special Miles Davis Jazz performance by the Shades of Blue Airforce Jazz Band. The Glendale Riders, a country-rock group, will take the stage at approximately 8 p.m. and take a break during the fireworks display. The band will come back on stage shortly afterwards and play until 11 p.m.
FRIDAY, AUGUST. 17
The season comes to a close on Aug. 17 with the return of Think Floyd and The Brothers as they pay tribute to Pink Floyd and the Allman Brothers. Think Floyd, which was recently voted by fans as Chicago’s favorite Pink Floyd tribute band, consists of eight members. The Brothers include seven members with Todd Brennan as lead vocalist.
The three Friday concerts begin at 6 p.m. and close at 11 p.m. The amphitheater is located at #1 Henry St. in Alton, Ill. Tickets are $5 each except for the free concert on July 21.Food and beverages will be available for purchase. No coolers allowed. Concert goers are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets.
